Week 9: Your words have power! And, be careful how you talk to yourself!

Hello You!

I hope all is well!

So, this week I have been thinking about how we talk to ourselves and how easy it is for us to diminish and demoralise ourselves.

How many times have you used the phrases ’I hate my’ or ‘I wish I’ referring to yourself?

I hate my eyes, ears, nose, skin, belly, hair, thighs or I wish I was an x amount of kilos less or more or I wish I was taller or shorter or I hate my everything and I wish I was someone else! Ok, I am exaggerating a bit (and it is not always about the physical appearance!) but you know what I mean!

‘Hate’ is a strong word, don’t you think? Would you use that word for someone else? I don’t think so! You are a nice person!

Why saying these things to yourself then? Why not being nice to yourself?

You need to understand that your words have power! You need to understand that the person you are spending most of your time with, it’s You! You must learn to love and accept you and talk to you with the kindness and compassion you deserve! Because every time you talk to you - I know shocking - but you are listening! So, it is up to you to build yourself up and treat you with the respect you deserve!

In other words, change the narrative. Instead of ‘I hate my’ say ‘I love my’ and instead of ‘I wish I’ use the words ‘I will work hard on’.

Start noticing the moments of self-hatred and choose the words you use wisely. Create a habit of loving yourself! And remember, you are the most important person in your life!

I know that you have probably heard the ‘Your words have power’ and ‘Love yourself first’ a million times already but unfortunately, I think we are still a long way from accepting and loving ourselves in the way we deserve it. I just hope that the more we talk, write and share about it, the quicker we will get there!

Love and accept you as you are and work on the things you want to improve - inside and outside.

Apologies for the rant, it is that sometimes I just can't!:)

Anyway, that’s it for today! Do you agree that we should be careful on how we talk to ourselves? Have you ever paid attention on how you talk to yourself? Any ideas on how we can change the narrative? Let me know!

And before you go, remember to share and like, if you liked!

Thank You for Being Here!

Love,

Me!x

P.S.: I will be here once a week!

Recap:

  1. Be careful how you talk to yourself, because you are listening!

  2. Talk to you with love, compassion and kindness!

  3. Your words have power!

Bonus:

  1. One of the reasons I wrote this blog post today is because I have recently found out about the iweigh movement. This movement was founded by Jameela Jamil for us to feel valuable and see how amazing we are and look beyond the flesh in our bones. If you want to learn more, you can find it on instagram by clicking on i_weigh.

  2. A reminder from me: Your body is what carries you through this life, it helps you make your dreams come true, you make art with it, you show your love with it, you cry and laugh with it, so you should definitely take care of it. Just don’t let any numbers on any scale define you in any way. Being healthy and feeling strong is beyond any numbers.
